Now if you design a TH for 70 hz, you can use it from 35 hz up to 140 hz, and that could match up to your 142hz front Upper Bass horn. With this solution you completely eliminate the need for a Folded horn midbass channel, that ...

I use hypex amp on my tapped horn (so ULF) and it is great. I use a plate version specifically built for sub duties. It has a 18db filter as well as a rotary phase knob which comes in handy! I have had no problems, and can not say its doing anything ...

The people who use a single driver speaker believe the while their driver move back and forth for it also radiates a problem-free MF and HF. Near the same people believe that if an amp has capacitors with precious metals foil then it not only do ...
Are you planning to drive the SS lower than the frequency gained by the box? I don't remember the older drivers having long Xmax and/or high BL, or high mms, so multiple drivers and likely more power, not to mention biased X/O, ...

All you mention, Robin, and more. So, what is it that informs us of these things? I think it is simplistic to say it is UHF or ULF, even though these play into it. I believe there are also matters of "phase", and frequency response as one hears it wh...

I haven't really thought this through, but if I were doing upper-bass horns again, especially if cut using a numerically controlled router, I might consider making tham oval, which would permit going for a horn with a lower cutoff (larger mouth) whil...

I still have no absolute piece with my very lower bass not because I do not like it – I do like it very much but because I do not know if I want to do anything with it. I have over the last 2 weeks 3 quite expensed visitors in my room and I did expli...

Romy,Of course you are right. I would not expect you to advise me on whom to marry. I will indeed experiment as I was always planning to. I will place my speakers and play them, listen to the room, get naked, dance a little dance and hope for inspira...
Let me tell you a bit about how an why we designed the midbass horns the way we did.A few years ago we discovered the tractrix horn for MF use. It was really the most important improvement so far. No more honking exponential horn so...
I afraid it might be some vibrant harmonic discrepancies between the single-stage high Mu IDHT and DC-coupled DHT, or some kind ULF wobbling of my DC-coupled solution. I think it is something more fine then frequency respon...

Today I listened to a CD dub of early Etta James. Not to speak of the quality of the recording, but it is good enough to hear that Etta sings right up on the mic, and the mic feed is treated to some reverb. I had the volume set at "15", not very lou...

More and more I am running across applications for the Hypex digital amps, which seem to be mostly plate amps. Does this stuff have a place in high-demands systems? Could it replace giant coils? It is no secret that almost all "pros" went this wa...

There's no zero-crossing with A2 .833 or equivalent are a good choice for this extreme project and bass performance is excellent, I have heard 833 SE briefly and it has great authority. The driver would best be some sort of small/medium output valve d...

Guys, I am not kidding, something is VERY right in the sound of that tuber crossover combined with my SS amp. Even the ULF in this configuration has some properties that I would like to have improved but the from more holistic perspective the int...
Romy You have not done your main test yet, And you are ready to get rid of your LF array's to soon or maybe you did it and did not post it or say anything about it. The way i would troulble shoot this problem is to a test refera...

Steve, it certainly gets down to what one listens to/for, as well as system capabilities. My own current experiments have to do with "presentation", broadly speaking, of big works including Bruckner, Brahms and "similar" music that - to my ears - re...

Jorge, do you have any picture of those Aurios? Do they have two caps to hold the ball or one?If two, did you attach the upper one firmly to the component or simply put it on it, using weight? How would you describe the negative sound change? Is Forsel...

I have just started thinking of something like this for midbass/ULF: floor firing one-eigth horn (TuneAudio Anima inspired) with the scanspeak array (in green) attached to the side. There is the obvious problem of time alignment, but I can see no wa...

I pulled from a basement Dunleavy SCIII and plugged them as
a Pilot speaker’s driver by Yamaha B2. They are so nice! I would not use them
foe complex classical music as they are a bit shallow and confused but for TV repertoire
they are just perfec...

Scott, it sounds like you have properly tempered your expectations and steeled yourself against the very real possibility of "problems" over the course of developing this channel. Is the Dean originally designed +/- as a corner horn, and do you plan...

Well the thing is that the returning wave from the back side of the driver, does return in phase, but "later" than the front wave, logically. This should add some distortion that I have not noticed, but of course and worried for as much as I am worr...

My Freudian subject line is not just phraseology but something that does make a lot of sense to me. It is my sentiment that audio people are not familiar with proper bass reproduction and have wrong expectations how bass shall sound by playback. Expe...

Two "temporary" solutions worth considering:1) A big nasty Krell KAV 500i (stereo 2x250 into 8 Ohms; 2x500w into 4 Ohms; built-in preamp; excellent volume potentiometer; remote; holds resale value). Though the mid range and HF of Krell amps is not co...

Too true, Steve. As it happens, the distance between sidewalls just in front of my speakers is over 50 feet, and a wide hallway opens to large rooms along and at the end of its course. I have said all along in my The Loudspeakers thread that an "ongo...
Next time I'm making them from a double wall of 3/4-inch plywood sandwiching two inches of sand.
I do not know if that would be truly necessary. For sure it will not hurt and will be better but ULF that works with ...

If I try Trapped Horn then it will be ether 90” toll or 108” tool and as narrow as possible. I am not looking for “reverse engineer the tapped-horn and refold it in a different manner” but rather to somebody who know what they do to design the right ...

Reverberation time is surely a part of it but I think that there is more. If I am in the quiet church alone and close my eyes, I know how big the space is. If I am in a concert hall with managed acoustics and close my eyes, I know nothing. I believe ...

I'm not sure how or even whether the DSP latency +/- correlates to "typical" ULF phase/delay/contour issues that must be "dealt with" in any case, for power relegation and system integration. It's not exactly, specifically relevant, but I have heard...
Lets just say that TH bass is much cleaner and generates a different "bass sensation" in the room. Once you get used to it, it is very difficult to go back to boxed bass.I find the sound similar to what a Mid bass horn woud pla...

Since my left channel along with midbass horn is more or less configured I made today a first rest of the full assembly - with LF section. The midbass does somewhere hear 40Hz and I set the LF section for 34Hz, drove it from B2 via the SMS crossover....
